We have been researching pits for a purchase early next year. Any of you have one of the Peoria Custom Cookers? Your comments would be appreciated.

yes, I do. I have had it for about 2 months and can't say enough good things about it. The quality is outstanding, the folks at the company are pleasant to deal with . The firebox is huge-even my relatively small cooker has a 2 cubic foot box. One caveat though, order in the winter, if possible I waited til April, and it took 3 months to get it. Any questions- ask anytime here's some pics- http://usera.imagecave.com/bbqdave/ Putnam Valley N.Y. Peoria Custom Cooker 24x48 w/ firebox grill |

Thanks Dave, great looking pit! And thanks for the heads up on ordering. We are looking at either the 24x72 or the 30x96 Trailer Pit.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I was talking to a guy at a comp a few weeks ago who was cooking on one of the large ones with the open pit on the front-he was very pleased with his also. I believe the name of his team is Mighty Quinn's BBQ

GREAT company with quality products. I was about to buy a 24x48 this spring when my wife's car died on us. Forcing me to used my saved up pitt money for a down payment on a new car.
If you can afford them i really believe they are one of the top pitt makers out their. Quality is top notch, Customer severice is great (and I wasn't even a customer yet). I'd put them up there with Klose any day.

My PCC is to be here within the week. I bought the 24 X 48 that Dave has; however, I had mine modified a little. My smokestacks are staggered...I have one in the upper of the chamber on one lower. Additionally, I asked for a fourth leg and 4 D rings to aid in tying down when/if I carry it anywhere. Just to let you know what kind of people these are - Bill Cusak, owner of PCC decided to have mine powder coated instead of painted - at no add. charge. I can't wait to get it and get it fired up. My only regret is not ordering sooner as deer season has opened up in Kentucky already |

Well, I am anxious to get it. Just got an email that stated that it is at the powder coat shop. The wait is getting the better of me...
BTW Dave - how do you like the tires as opposed to the wheels that is standard? I had the pneumatic tires put on as well as I don't have a paved driveway. Additionally, how hard it it to move around - I suspect the things weighs close to 7-800 lbs. |

that's a story in itself!!! the guy who delivered it (Larry) said it weighs close to 1,000 lbs. It pulled us down the driveway (hill) a ways before finally stopping in a flower bed!!! We finally got it to the top of the driveway, where it sat for a couple of days until my lawn guys came. Three of them and me pushed/pulled it up the lawn and onto the back deck. To answer your question, it rolls very easily on the deck or level ground-BUT watch those hills!!! quote: Originally posted by BBQ Guy

| Well, I am going to get it as Peoria is just a little over 300 miles from where I am in West Kentucky. But, now that I know what it weighs, I will probably get a u-haul trailer to go get it. I was just thinking of putting it in the bed of my truck and then rolling it out when I get home...guess I better re-think those plans |

I would have liked to have gone out there myself, but it's a little too far, best of luck on the trip PS-that was a cool idea staggering the smokestacks-it will probably make for more even temps throughout the chamber Putnam Valley N.Y. Peoria Custom Cooker 24x48 w/ firebox grill |

My PCC is ready Now all I gotta do is go get it. It will probably be Tuesday. Dave, how long did you season your pit? How did the temps hold up. Could you tell any difference from one side to the other? What have you cooked on it? Can you tell I am a little anxious? |

I seasoned it for about 3 hours. Like Bill said, I started off w/ about a dozen briquettes and a couple of pieces of wood and gradually added more coals til it got to about 350 degrees after wiping down the entire inside w/ peanut oil. Temps hold well, generally there's about a 25 degree difference between sides, sometimes less (on the bottom grate); I haven't used the top grate yet, but according to the cooker thermometer, it 's about 75 degrees hotter up there. I've done Brisky, ribs, butts, beer can and other chickens, and I've grilled all sorts of steaks, lamb, wings, veggies etc. on the grill portion. Good luck, and have a safe trip

The PCC is in my garage. Here is a link to some of the pics that I just took...seasoned it Saturday. Temps held just like they were suppose to...but I may have got it a little hotter than I should have. I am used to cooking on that SNP and it eats the coals. I probably put too much in the PCC and it got on up to over 400 degrees. I am going to cook on it this weekend and will post those pics next week.
