We've got a Southern Pride SPK-280 mounted on the nice factory trailer. Trailer condition is great: excellent tires, electric breaks, breakaway system, spare tire, etc. Smoker has seen regular use for the last couple years but works flawlessly. No smoke extractor or digital temp options, but a few extra racks. We're the second owners, we bought it from a catfish place in middle GA that used it lightly. Age of the cooker is about five years I think.
Anyway, it's a real workhorse but once the catering season kicks in we're not sure it will have the capacity to keep up with the demand, so Johnny asked me to start nosing around to see what deals could be made. So here it is:
We Have: a Southern Pride SPK-280, trailer mounted We Want: a larger SP or OH, 500 or possibly 700 size, NOT on a trailer.
Ideally we'd do a straight across trade, but cash in the deal is possible depending on the values of each cooker. A three-party deal could work too if we could find folks willing to time the exchanges pretty closely since we don't want to be without a smoker for more than a couple days.
Anyway, if you hear of anybody looking to sell or downsize a hybrid send them my way, I'd appreciate it!

We can't put a price on our SPK-280 yet - it's priceless for us until we have a larger hybrid lined up to replace it.
I keep a pretty good eye out for used equipment, so I know what's a fair price and what's a good price. (We too like to purchase gear from closed businesses to get the best bargains!) Since we're not in a hurry right now, I thought I'd float the idea of a swap. If the stars align and we cross our fingers maybe we'll find somebody with a stationary 500 that they find too big and hard to move who would see our trailered 280 as a fair trade.
It's a long shot probably, but you never know until you try... |

I THINK THE PROBLEM WITH " THE SWAP" IS THE TRAILER ..THAT TRAILER SELLS FOR $800.00 HERE IN MICHIGAN. SOUTHERN PRIDE IS ASKING $2,500.00. WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT DEALERS RECEIVE %30 PERCENT DISCOUNT FROM RETAIL. THE "TRADE" STILL LEAVES $1,750.00 MORE THAN NECESSARY IN THE DEAL ..IF YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO CONSIDER THAT THERE IS A COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS THAT IS VIEWED AS EXCESSIVE BAGGAGE IN THE DEAL ..YOU MIGHT REALIZE WHY A PROSPECTIVE TRADE PARTNER, WOULD BE RELUCTANT TO SEE THAT AS A "FAIR TRADE". THIS IS GOOD TIME OF YEAR TO BUY EQUIPMENT AS MUCH GOING FOR LOT LESS THAN NORMAL PRICING .. NOT A GOOD TIME TO BE SELLING.. I WILL TRY TO SEND PROSPECTIVE YOUR WAY ..AS I OFTEN HELP FOLKS LOCATE EQUIPMENT AROUND THIS COUNTRY ESPECIALLY IF SOUTHEN PRIDE, OLD HICKORY, HOLSTEIN ..

Thanks Billy.
I don't pay much attention to MSRPs; I learned long ago an object is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it. The key to successful horse trading is to find the fellow on foot who needs to travel!
We'll keep an eye on the foreclosure notices and perhaps a suitable deal will come along. If not, we can always fire up a few of the smaller smokers when we need extra volume.
Oh, and I've got to ask - what's with the all caps? It's hard to read and a considered rude by classic Netiquette standards. I'm not trying to start anything, just curious. |

I REALIZE THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED COURTEOUS. MY VISION IS PRETTY BAD, MAYBE TOO MANY DAYS AND NIGHTS SQUINTING IN THE SUN, MAYBE ITS THE DIABETES. I APOLOGIZE. I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO POST IF I HAD TO DO IN LOWER CASE.. OCCASIONALLY YOU WILL FIND LOWER CASE REPLIES AND THAT IS A GOOD DAY FOR ME ..I ONLY HOPE I DO NOT LOSE MORE. THIS FORUM HAS BEEN FORGIVING AND ALLOWED ME TO STAY. CAPS IS WAY I HAVE POSTED SINCE THE BEGINNING. HOPEFULLY WHAT I CONTIBUTE WILL MAKE UP FOR THE NON CONVENTIONAL FORM.. SINCERELY

No worries Billy. I suspected something like that as you have many posts here in all CAPS. I'm new here and was just curious.
I can't see anything without bifocals, so I find the ZOOM function in Internet Explorer quite handy when I encounter tiny text on a Web page. If you haven't tried it, it shows up as a little magnifying glass with a %100 in the lower right hand corner of the browser window, or you can use the keyboard shortcuts of CTRL + or CTRL - to zoom up and down. Very handy for those of us who have less than perfect vision! |

And in addition to some with failing eyesight... We also have those at work and are only able to use UPPER CASE. Arthritis makes it difficult to use the "shift key." There are several reasons it is allowable and accepted on this forum. Hope this helps to answer your question. Thanks.
