Posted - 03/01/2012 : 09:26:36 As we all know by now Davy Jones of the Monkees passed away yesterday from a heart attack. He was 66. Here's a couple things that you might or might not know about Davy and / or The Monkees. The Monkees were "made for TV and modeled after The Beatles In 1967 The Monkees out-sold both The Beatles and Rolling Stones Davy Jones was so popular that David Jones changed his name to David Bowie When The Monkees were formed, Michael Nesmith, was the only one that could play a musical instrument - session bands were used in their early recordings - Glen Campbell and Leon Russell were members of The Wrecking Crew that provided the early sound tracks. Davy Jones was still popular in the Chicago area - has played at several local neighborhood festivals over the years and was scheduled to do some this summer. I've seen bands like Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night at some of these festivals. Looking at pictures on AOL of The Monkees - boy they all looked so young back in those days! R.I.P. Davy Jones

Posted - 04/02/2012 : 17:14:58 I remember that Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote alot of their music too. Also, if my memory serves me correctly, which most times it doesn't, after the breakup, Mike Nesmith was one of the first to do a music video which spawned the original MTV, its all coming back to me now, Sunset Sam was the name of the video, I think. |
