Hey guys, I am in the market for a new smoker, but the problem is I live in California and can't seem to find anything decent out here. Seems like all the good smokers are east of Texas. I have been lurking on here for sometime now and love the Lang 48 and 60 models. I am just not sure if i can talk the wife into the 500.00 dollar shipping fee, but who knows. does anyone have any suggestions or know of any good smokers out here on the west coast? or should i just throw the pants on and tell her the Lang is in the mail.

thanks fellas, brick

Welcome to the board. The Langs are great units. I agree the shipping cost hurts. You might try looking on Ebay from time to time. There are other forums where you might find one your area. Another option may be to build a clone or have it built. There are a few of us that can give info and pictures if needed to build one.

Langs are nice, but have you looked at Stump's Smokers? http://www.stumpssmokers.com I'm not sure how much it would cost to ship to California, but I'm sure someone on this forum could answer that question for you

Stumps had a special on shipping just a month or so ago that may still be in effect. Something under $200 nation-wide if you had access to a loading dock or around $300 to your door. Don't quote me on this. The person to talk to is Walt (Oswego).

Thanks for the warm welcome, and all the replies

I appreciate the link 1MoreFord, I'll take a look around.

The Stumps look nice, but I'm looking for a horizontal smoker, I am a stick burner at heart.

Your in luck, there are a few of us left around. I luv my Lang and all night cooking is some of my best relaxation. Keep looking. Lang is making a new style, but I still like the ol one. Keep in mind steel prices are going thru the roof also.

Yeah, I noticed they have the 3rd generation models coming out. Your not to high on them ha? Do you know if they are the same price as the "old" models, and do they still sell the "old" models? Could you justify forking over the 500 bucks for shipping, or would you look elsewhere? Sorry to bombard you with questions, help is much appreciated.

Give Ben a call. He is a really decent guy to talked to. He may some around. I think it is probably just the look and style. I have a older model, so I am attached to it. Her name is Daisy. Look on the pit builders list I think there is one or two out your way. Just not familar with them. 5 bills is lot and may be better use on something more local. Just have to see what is out there on the left coast.. But if could not find anything out there within reason. It is hard to beat Ben Langs cooker.

Stumps makes a great stick burner too. It's hard to beat a lang, though, when it comes to stick burners. Stumps offsets are a little more expensive, but his genereally offers more space and more options. You couldn't go wrong with either one imo. Let us know what you decide.

I could not afford one either, (or the gas to go get it). So I studied it real hard, got a torch & welding machine, taught my self to weld & built one. I just won 1st in chicken & 2nd in pork with it at my first comp. Now I have what I need to build bigger ones !

$500 is not a bad shipping price from Ga. to Ca. Who knows you may not even have to pay sales tax being shipped from out of state?
