Hello Barbecue nuts,
My name is Jack and I live in Charleston, SC. I manage a produce rack for a large discount retailer. I'm 49 years old and have been cooking something or another since I was 10.
I am the chief cook and bottle washer for a Comp team named Common Interest. I also operate the Carolina Pit Masters Barbecue Cooking School. My wife Mary and I are inseperable on the trail. We are KCBS CBJ's, Master Judges and Marshal's for the SCBA and soon to visit Atlanta and pick up an MBN certification.
I'll contribute when I can. Otherwise I'm happy just to sit and enjoy being here.
Good Q!
Jack

Never noticed this thread, but how rude of me to start posting without first introducing myself.
Nick Hebert originally from Houma, LA, now live in Birmingham, AL. I am 28 years old and have been an attorney for the past three years. Prior to that, worked mainly in insurance, however did a stint in a restaurant as a chef. I have loved cooking for most of my life, however I did not enter the barbecue world until I moved to Alabama, seven years ago. Lovely wife of two years and new baby girl who is amazing! You can usually spot us at a cookoff as we will have the LSU flag flying high and the ice chest radio playing tunes. May not always have first place 'que, but are always first in fun!
Hogs and Hank Cooking Team Lang 60 for the last five years and haven't looked back.

Hello!! I have been lurking for a while. Great site!!
I have been smoking meats, fish and other edible items for the past 35+ years. I grew up with my grandfather who owned a butcher shop in Philly which I worked in for 11 years growing up. While never a competitive cook I have always taken this great hobby very seriously and never lack for guests for dinner!! My wife suggests that I am a bit compulsive. I have cooked on Webers, Brinkman's, Cook Shacks, BGE, dug pits, numerous offsets.... I could actually have a scrap yard of the stuff I have discarded. I am now waiting on a Stumps GF222 that is due the week of July 18th.
I am also an active KCBS CBJ and just finished up judging the Capital BBQ Challenge in DC this past weekend. I am tempted to enter a few competitions once I get the Stumps down pat.... Dover De and Hedgesville WV are getting to be quite tempting.
I live just outside of Fairfax Virginia with my wonderful wife of 34 years. I have two grown girls who live in the area and one brand new grandson. My other interests include Bourbon and cigars.
Great to be here!!! |

Well great news in our would. We will soon be relocating to Baton Rouge "the little red stick" country from wonderful North East Alabama. It isn't Texas but getting closer. Trying to paint and get a house ready for market now and little time but looking forward to new job food and bbq buddies to meet.

I was born and raised in Houston Texas, I moved around alot when I was a young man. Met my wife in Orlando Fla. and moved to Watkins Glen NY to raise our son where she was born and raised. I am a Union Roofer about to retire. I'm 50 years old and have been Q"ing all my life. Now I want to retire and make people happy with my BBQ. I have two small Brinkmans, One large brinkman, a homemade pig rotissere, and the newest addition a Lang 84 Mobile Deluxe Warmer Longneck Char Grill. I just want to bring all the taste and flavor to the Northeast I can and have fun. Trying to put together a team for compitions?

I'm from Montreal, Quebec. - moved around a bit and am settled, for now, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
I sell websites and domain names (partner in a small business), provide management for larger books of domains and provide consulting for on-line brand building. Do (relatively mundane) product photography and portraiture for websites (and [hopefully] more interesting/better photos for fun).
I nearly burnt down our kitchen, for the first time, in 1966 (hey, I was hungry and didn't know what I was doing). Started cooking a little more seriously in '91 when my wife went overseas for work (hey, I was hungry ... and, by then, I had a clue).
There are hills older than I (I'm over 50).
I'm fairly average with barbecue (use an outdoor electric grill - don't care to fuss with propane 'n stuff) although my favourite medium for meat (of which I eat, now, relatively little) is a fire pit with wood (though it is rarely available to me now). Married, now, for 32 years (to the same person) - can't imagine what else you'd want to know 'bout me. |
