I am from Westfield, PA. I currently live in Raleigh, NC via Warren Ohio where I worked 10 years in the Steel Mill. My wife hated the snow and cold so off to Raleigh we came. I am a Licensed residential Building Contractor since 1990. I am 54 years old. I started cooking whole hogs since my Ohio days and have done more than my share here in NC. I went to the Royal 3 yrs ago and got hooked on smoked meat. Came back got me a Stumps and practiced alot. Last year competed in my first 2 comps and am hving a ball. I have a wife of 27 years on Feb 28 this year and 5 kids. 2 sets of twins. Hope to compete more this year.

Work as a technician for a large telecommunications company-
Been cooking for a long as I can remember, but only have gotten into Q in the last 5 or 6 years
I am 48 years old, have 2 almost grown kids and a great wife who is very supportive of my hobbies- Yes I am lucky and have one of good ones and wouldn't know what to do without her support |

I was born in Olean, NY, a small town due south of Buffalo, until I was almost 3. Then we moved to Bradford, PA (another small town due about 80 miles south of Buffalo in the NE corner of the Allegheny Forrest), lived there until I was almost 9. Then finally, we moved to Charlotte, NC. Lived there until I was 16, then we moved out to Midland, NC. I lived there until I was 18 and have been traveling the world and U.S. ever since living in many places and countries.
I'm currently in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Damage Controlman (we do the welding, metal fabricating, plumbing, carpentry, and ship board emergency response stuff) but I started in the Marines.
Since my parents split when I was 11, and my dad worked between 60 and 80 hours, I kind of had to fend for myself most nights. I do remember my dad always said that a recipe was just a suggestion. Now I understand why nothing ever tasted the same twice. But I got serious about BBQ 7 or so years ago when I started missing the few good memories of childhood, and I naturally gravitated towards 'que. But my love of cooking has grown a great deal once I realized how average the food was in restaurants that fit my budget. So I took it upon myself to learn how to cook to my standards.
I am 33 and have been married almost 10 years. We have a 7 year old daughter and another baby on the way that's due in mid July.
I'll be taking my cooker and moving in early May to the Portsmouth, NH / Kittery, ME area where I'll hopefully be able to pick up on some new flavor profiles and techniques. I do plan on going to Culinary School eventually and having my own restaurant.
I think that just about it covers it for now.

Came from Oklahoma originally, lived in Alaska, and now in Bellevue,Wa...I've been with USPS as a letter carrier since 1988.I started cooking early on, but only real BBQ the last few years..don't get to Q as much as I want to. I'll be 53 in March, and I think I'd like to take several vacations and do a bbq/regional food trip. Never been east of Little Rock, Arkansas! |

Life long Kansan, except for 4 years in Uncle Sam's canoe club. That took me to the left coast and points so far west that they become east. Currently live in Topeka where I am assistant general counsel for a trade association that represents cities. I have been cooking as long as I can remember. I started grilling in the mid-60s on a cast iron hibachi. Subsequently graduated to and went through a variety of charcoal and gas grills. About 10 years ago I started dabbling with indirect cooking/smoking on both charcoal and gas grills. Two years ago bought my first smoker and followed that with a second one (do I need to say it is bigger than the first). Both are Good-ones made in Burns, KS.
I was born sometime after there was dirt but before wheat was invented. Actually, I was 60 last September. My reason for living and I have 2 girls -- one in Wisconsin and one in the Denver area. Both are great Q fans.
2007 was a bit of a special year. I turned 60. My wife turned 60. We celebrated our 40th anniversary. And, I ran my first marathon.

I GOT A VIEWMASTER CAMERA, 1950. GRILLED MY FIRST CHEESE SANDWICH ON A KEROSENE STOVE, THAT WINTER, ON MY 10TH BIRTHDAY .. GOT A BIG DESIRE TO GO SEE THE GRAND CANYON AND PAINTED DESERT FROM THE VIEWMASTER AND A LONGING FOR GRILLED SANDWICHES THAT DIDN'T TASTE LIKE KEROSENE ... MY DADDY AND HIS BROTHER WORKED AS BUTCHERS WITH MY GRANDPA AND HIS BROTHERS ..BUT WASN'T MUCH BUTCHERING TO DO IN 1958 WHEN I WENT TO WORK FOR McDONALDS IN EAST LANSING, MICHIGAN .. THE STORY IS TOO LONG FOR THIS POSTING .. BUT CAN SAY AS "BILLY BONES TRAVELING ROAD SHOW AND BARBECUE COMPANY' ..I HAVE SEEN THE GRAND CANYON AND LOTS MORE. AFTER 25 YEARS ON THE ROAD IN COMPETITION AND OVER 1 MILLION MILES OF BAD ROADS, CHEAP MOTELS AND BADLY PREPARED RESTAURANT FOOD,I ALSO KNOW WHERE TO FIND SOME GREAT SANDWICHES THAT DON'T TASTE OF KEROSENE ..

I live in Edwardsville, Il. been here all my life and I'm 52 yrs old. I work at St. Louis Int'l airport as a Aircraft Maintenance Technician for FedEx. Worked at Lambert Field now for 30 yrs, does time fly or what. I've been BBQ'n all my life and been smok'n for 20yrs, have always been interested in smok'n since every year my Uncle Bob would have a BBQ, he would go out and kill the hog, butcher and smoke it right there at his farm, great memories there. Really enjoy this forum, I've learned alot from all these great people.

Where are you from?
Grew up in East Texas just a East of Dallas, I then lived around Houston area for a bit and even Lubbock for a few years before moving to South Carolina. Since then we lived in Louisiana for a few years and now in Alabama. No clue where we will be next.
What do you do? If the question is about income? Currently am working as a Hazard Analysis Engineer, but in prior jobs have worked as a Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Advisor, Lab/QA Manager, Chemical Plant Superintendent, Process Engineer, Landfill Supervisor and even a Stabilization Specialist
How long have you been cooking? As long as I can remember, I started with an ECB as a youth, moved to an electric unit later then to a WSM and now to the Stump setup.
How old are you? Trick question, I continue to age each day. However at some point in time on my last B-day I was 41.
And anything else you wouldn't mind sharing. I am a chemist by formal education, have three typical kids. When not chasing kids, at work or church, or cooking… I try and spend time working on woodworking and woodworking equipment.
