Didn't really want to put this under Barbecue Restaraunts. I am not a big fan of fast food or buffets and have maybe eaten in a KFC maybe 3 times in my entire life. We travel to the Taylorville Springfield, IL. area at least once a month. Take care of business in Taylorville but stay and eat in Springfield. Taylorville is about 30 miles southeast of Springfield. We pass a good sized, seating for maybe 60 or 70, in Taylorville and have heard that they have an inexpensive buffet. We tried it for the first time last night. It was well stocked - chicken was good - I had sides of brussel sprouts (who's ever seen brussel sprouts on a buffet?), chicken & noodles, beets, and I even tried fried okra for the first time. They had a small salad bar. There was chocolate and vanilla pudding, peach and cherry cobbler, and a soft serve ice cream machine with toppings for deserts. All you can eat and all for $8.25 per person. Everything was really good!

Don't know how old you are, but the KFC's in my area give a 10% Senior Citizen discount to those of us who are 55 and older and some of the counter workers will point out that a small drink can be refilled as often as you would like.

2 months and 1 week short of the BIG 60. Have an AARP card but haven't really taken advantage of senior discounts. Get an AARP discount on hotels and car rentals from time to time. Old Country Buffets have closed up in Chicago area - went once or twice because work functions were held there. OK but not great. Like Golden Corral but haven't been for a few years. Maybe a casino buffet once or twice a year - some are good - some are mediocre. Won't go every time we travel to Springfield / Taylorville but will go again. There is still a Smokey Bones in Springfield. Thought Darden had closed them all up a couple years ago. They are always jammed - have tried to go twice and wait is has been one hour both times. Dr. of BBQ also has a pit, a small shack for his sides and guess his "office", and a few picnic tables scattered around - all on a fairly busy corner lot. Have heard good things about him but have never stopped. Plan to go on next month's trip.

Just can't do KFC anymore. After trying several different locations throughout the years, it just does not agree with me. Maybe they are lax on their sanitation or changing the oil, but it just doesn't sit well. So now, when the urge calls, I go to Popeye's. It might just be the way things are here.

YOU SHOULD BE HERE FOR ANY SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A FISH FRY .. THEORY IS THAT ANYTHING GOING INTO THE HOT OIL IS QUALIFIED AS "SANITIZED" THEREFORE, SAFE TO CONSUME.. COME ON GUYS YOU ARE ALREADY EATING 22 SPIDERS AND OVER A HUNDRD OTHER INSECTS PER YEAR FROM FOOD PREPARED AT HOME, FROM THE CAN OR FREEZER.. ITS ALL GODS PLAN TO NOURISH THE CHILDREN AND ELIMINATE THE SQUEAMISH . DON'T EVEN GET ME TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE CONSUMING ALONG WITH YOUR FAVORITE MEATS ..

I don't mind eating bugs at all. I eat spiders all of the time, as well as crickets, grasshoppers, and ants too. I used to bread and fry earth worms. No qualms here, I will survive the apocalypse. I have consumed more than my fair share of crunchy creepy crawlies, all I am saying is that everytime I have eaten at a KFC, my stomach has disagreed with my choice of vittles.

Are you reffering to my Italian heritage? Just in case anyone was wondering, my blood type is marinara. And FryMax, God only knows. It reminds me of HPT, High Performance Topping. It's what crappy bakeries use and pass off as whipped cream. That stuff can stay for a decade, it will plaster, but it won't rot away. Luv ya Billy.

Popeye's is my favorite. I am just not a fan of buffets. I can't get passed the thought of children running around with filthy hands, people coughing & sneezing on the food as well as touching what may be on my plate, not to mention, food that is not rotated properly & "danger zone" spots in the food trays. I want either the food cooked for me, or at least in the controlled enviornment in the back, but I am all so not a fan of most chain resturants. When I dine out I prefer (when I can) to eat at "mom & pop", small town type joints. That being said, I still like Wendy's, Popeye's, Subway, & some pizza places (but I like making mine at home from scratch even down to the sauce). Which brings me to another subject. I think it is the decline of "family's" cooking together in the kitchen which has helped in the decline of American values. All to often we see the instant gratification of "30 min or less delivery" where everyone gets thier food & goes in seperate directions to consume it, leaving behind the age old tradition of family's eating & being together. I remember when there was no pizza place in our small town, & if you wanted it was a family project to make it!
Whew! (stepping down from my soap box now) I feel better & am sorry if that you had to endure it if it doesn't apply to you. BBQ is NOT fast food & most of us envolve our friends & family, but I had to share a long held thought. What was I doing....... oh, drinking my coffee, alone while my wife sleeps in (enjoying peace & quite).

Not only has it led to the decline of the family eating together around the dinner table and having discussions about the days' events, I feel that all of this fast and processed food has led to the plethora of these food allergies and possibly other conditions. Even from my generation, you never heard of all these maladies. Then, the dawn of the fast food explosion and the processed supermarket meal replacements. If all you have to do is add water and microwave it, you really can't call it dinner. Overly processed, treated, zapped, added preservatives, etc... to me it's a recipe for disaster.

When I was growing up, we didn't do fast food. We would get pizza, although once in a blue moon. Just about every dinner was home cooking. Now a days it seems like people just go out almost every night and mostly to fast food. Is there any wonder our kids are obese.

Not just obese, but so many other ailments that just were not around, or as prevalent when I was a kid.
