So I just moved to Indy from Houston... And so far I have checked numerous stores and cant find anyone that sells whole packers up here. All I can find is flats.. I've tried Marsh,Meijer,Walmart,Krogers, and Costco....

WE ORDER WHOLE PACKERS FROM LOCAL INDEPENDENT BUTCHER SHOP. BOX STORES DO NOT CARRY THIS ITEM UNLESS SUBSTANTIAL BUSINESS TO BE REALIZED FROM LOCAL RESTAURANTS, SPECIAL REQUEST OR SPECIAL ORDER.. CHANCE OF GETING CHOICE GRADE PACKER IS MUCH BETTER FROM LOCAL BUTCHER, ESPECIALLY IF YOU REQUEST THAT GRADE. BIG BOX STORES LOVE TO INJECT SALT WATER TO KEEP COLOR LONGER THAN IS NATURAL, UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, FOR FRESH MEATS.

locate billy in Red Keg, michigan - half way between Paradise and Hell

WalMart and Costco both sell whole packers in Chicago area. fairly new store in Westmont - Standard Market has had them once or twice. My butcher will get any time - he does not stock - I'm sure he would be much more expensive.
kane - where in Indy area are you? I'm going to be just west of Southport in 2 weeks. Probably not like Houston - I've only ever been there (Houston) once - but Indy area has a lot to offer.

Ditto on Walmart, also Sam Club. I go into Sams all the time and even if they don't have packers on display, they always have them in the back.

kane - How you making out down there in Indy? Hope you're finding your way around. Go a couple times a year - easy drive for me and it's a good place to spend a weekend.

SOrry for the late response.. Been crazy busy at work... Its going pretty good in Indy. I finally got fire the new smoker up today, doin a brisket and a tenderloin... I tried a few bbq joints out that werent bad. City bbq was not to bad for a restaraunt and a place called Squealers was ok too. What brings you down to Indy?

Pics of the new smoker and Guru:

I finally did find one at Krogers that was worth buying... I will have to keep looking for a regular supplier.

kane - niece and her family live out by Southport. We meet up with my Dad, and sister and her husband down there.
Just me and the soon to be 3 year old grandson did our 1st "guys only" road trip there last weekend. My wife and his Mom couldn't go because of a bridal shower here.
We had a good time and he traveled good.
