When I got my first smoker, I came here to learn Q. You guys were great. Billy and CarolinaQue were always ready to give advice. Forrest spent over an hour on the phone with me one time. Bobber met me when I was in New York and gave me valuable advice over a BBQ dinner. A host of others helped me become a decent Qer.
What's my point? As discussed earlier this year, things have been slow around here. I miss hearing from you guys and was wondering what happened. Then I checked my posts and, what do you know, I haven't been posting much either. I was thinking, "why aren't you guys posting?" and it turns out I'm one of "you guys." I got used to it being slow and started spending more time discussing Q elsewhere.
I'm sure it will pick up now that Memorial Day is near. In the meantime, I'm going to do my part and start posting here more often. When it comes to discussing Q, this place and you guys will always be special to me. Let's keep it going.

I'm still around, just don't have a lot of time to do much at the computer other than check emails. I've spent most of my time focusing on my business, it has now become a bbq take out resturaunt. Even though we are only open 2 days a week it still seems to take up all my time.

I check in whenever I can. Still grill more than barbecue but won't do much for the next couple weeks. Work and on the road over the weekends.

Lew -- good to see you again. Like Billy and BOS, I am here most of the time. Not always in a conversant mood, but always lurking around and willing to chime in from time-to-time.

I stop in from time to time but don't always login. I think w/ the advent of FB/T many are there for the most part. I don't really care for either as they've just made my life a miserable h*ll in my IT dept so I don't care for either & don't wish to belong to either!

I thought that it was so quite around here because we finally succeeded in educating the entire country on what real BBQ was and how to achieve it??? You mean that's not it
Well...one can hope any way!!!
But seriously, I think that it's normal for the smaller forums like this to have quite moments like this. But, I think a lot has changed over the last year or 2, and this may be the new norm around here?

I've been laid off twice within this past year. My Union is very slow. Too many journeymen and not enough work. I've been looking at other options and will start bottling my sauce soon, start a mail order cheesecake business, and embark on a culinary writing career. It's all very hard to do with a wife who works 3 days a week, and with two little ones who rely on you for everything. I still check in everyday and occaisionaly post. Smoking is still in me and this is the only bbq forum I am a part of, and I like it like that. You guys on here are so welcoming and giving. You're the best!!!
I wish I was born with two stomachs. All the best, Al. |

Same here, and I hate to say it, but things did slow down with the loss of Mother Hen , she did keep the conversation going.

Ditto. Check in just about every day but I've been busy at work (finally!) so I've got to make hay while the sun shines. Haven't been able to compete this year due to finances but the good news is I've been able to do some catering so we're getting our name out. I've got a place running the numbers on getting my sauce bottled up and my rub packaged. None of that would have been possible without the help of everyone here.

I too am guilty of lurking more than posting. I've been wanting to post pictures of changes I made to my smoker but the ole computer just won't cooperate. Chris, is your bottler near you or out of state? I can't find one in my area and was wondering if you found it on the internet or somewhere else? Like all of you I find this forum the best and have picked up many great ideas!
