NoCents Deluxe Power Injector: The new necessity

By NBBQN Staff

Mini model for smaller jobs

We have tried some really great gadgets over the past 20 years, but none of them could be more useful than the new product we tried for the May issue!  The honorable Stephen Smith, with his vast knowledge of the barbecue world, is the inventor of this great product. His list of barbecue credits could probably take up this entire page, but on the bottom line, you would know Stephen is a true fan of all things barbecue and has the experience to know what works and what doesn’t. Stephen’s motto has always been, “Have fun,” and this new injector certainly puts the fun back into this part of making great barbecue.

The NoCents Deluxe Power Injector is the only injector we have ever used that will allow the use of small spices, such as pepper and minced garlic, just to name a few, to be injected into your meat. Every other injector we have tried while mixing liquid and spices together has resulted in a clogged up needle that had to be trashed. This unit never clogged on us, and we used tons of different spices just to see if could clog it up. We are happy to report that through our multiple tests, we never had a single clog!

The deluxe model comes with the needle you need to inject small spices into your meat.

Our first test was done the same day we received our unit to inject three pork butts. We used apple juice as our liquid base and mixed in honey, table salt. and a cup of rub that has 12 different spices in it. We were able to put over half a gallon into each butt during this process, and the results were out standing. We could tell a huge difference over the normal product we cook simply because we were now putting those great spices into the meat where they could render out more flavor than ever before.

The NoCents one gallon power injector has taken all the hard work out of injecting flavor into your meat.

Our second test came a week later when we put the unit through a durability test while injecting over 100 pork butts for a charity cook. We were able to inject each butt with a quarter gallon of our injection without any mishaps. We had a crew of six folks helping us mix the injection into gallon jugs, and only two of us were actually injecting and rubbing the butts. In fact, we were injecting at such a fast pace we had to stop several times and wait for more injection to be made for us. Again the results were off the charts as we delivered a product that we were all very proud of.

The NoCents injector comes in several different models. The deluxe model is the only unit we tested, but I am pretty sure the other models would perform just as well, although the other units have to be used with liquids only. If you’re wanting to put liquid only into your meat, then we are sure the other models would work quicker than the unit you currently use. Hands down this is the best injector we have ever used!

Stumps Smokers: Building more than just a winning smoker

By Kell Phelps

Back in May of this year, I was doing a rather large cooking for a few friends and needed a bigger cooker than I owned. When trying to figure out what to do, my old buddy Stump McDowell just happened to give me a call. During this conversation, I told him of my situation and he offered to let me test one of his bigger Platinum 4 model smokers. I have seen and used Stumps Smokers for years but had not used these bigger models and was curious to see if they really cooked as well as the smaller units.

After my first batch of ribs, I was hooked! The cooker was just as easy to operate as the smaller units and performed just as well, too. It really is pretty much a light it, set it, and forget about it process!

While I was there, I noticed several “rigs” in the parking lot, so I did a little investigating. It turns out Stump has been building these turn-key mobile kitchens for a while now. Needless to say, I was like a kid in a candy store to see these masterpieces of barbecue cookery. The best thing about these “rigs” is each one is custom built to be what you want it to be. Stump told me, “We can do any size, small one with just a pit on it or one that can fit your entire family !”

I guess I was amazed to see just how far my old buddy Stump has come. I remember seeing and cooking on one of his first test models several years  back. It is always good to see one of the good guys heading in the right direction, especially in today’s economy.

This is Stump’s personal barbecue wagon that was designed just for his needs (which includes a good bit of competition cooking around the Southeast United States).
