The Weber Master-Touch Series Kettle grill has a long list of features that make it worth the extra cost.

Master touch weberOver the years we have enjoyed seeing how Weber has helped turn the most successful charcoal grill in the world into a “do it all” outdoor cooking device. Our newest product reviewing grill has become a product review itself after we were blown away by its advances and simple added features.

Our BBQ life motto is smarter and not harder. This simple lesson was handed down from our grilling and pitmaster who is also known as Papa Joe.

Papa Joe was excellent about letting us experiment so we could learn how air intake controlled the temperature inside any cooking device. His favorite tool used to teach us this lesson was an old 1970’s model Weber kettle grill. Wooden handles and two vents with worn thin racks inside would best describe this tool.

Needless to say, we had to learn a ton of tricks before we mastered cooking on ole Bessie but once our skill set improved to the point we didn’t burn everything we touched then we would try anything. Grilled banana splits became our favorite show off dish to prepare after our learning curve was complete.

This education affected us so much that to this day we do almost 90% of all our product reviews from the Weber Kettle type grill. This type of basic grilling is like wearing a favorite pair of shoes. We always get the same results from certain proteins, and that makes it the perfect unit for our tests as our test items changes the outcomes and not our cooking process.

A few weeks ago we had to go shopping for a new replacement grill as our tree trimming got a little crazy and took our test kettle out of commission. What we found in this process is the purpose of the article: explain how our new Master-Touch series grill is a massive upgrade over the basic kettle we have used for the past 10 years.

One quick glance at the Master-Touch series 22” Weber Kettle grill will tell you that it is not your average kettle type grill. The most visible outside advancements are the ash catch can, heat deflector under the lid handle, and lid cradle on the backside.

The outside differences are useful, but they mainly assist in your overall cooking experience while doing very to help in the cooking process. About the only cooking difference from these upgrades comes in the ash bucket as it will actually block wind from blowing ash into your grill on a windy day.

You get the opportunity to really see some innovation once you take the lid off and see the heart and soul of what makes this unit worth its retail price tag of $220.

First and most important is the heavy-duty racks that are hinged on both sides that make adding charcoal a breeze. It also has an additional rack that is curved that will give another 20% or so of cooking space. The entire rack system is part of the Weber Gourmet BBQ System and can accept a ton of different cooking surfaces and accessories designed to cook just about anything imaginable.

Under the racks, you will find two charcoal trays that will allow you to barbecue, smoke, grill, roast, or cook about any way you can think of. These trays can also help you save on charcoal as it keeps unburnt charcoal together so that it can be reused on your next cook.

The photos to the left show all of the smaller changes that help improve your grilling and barbecue experience. A few of these include the rear lid catch, the front handle has built-in tool hooks, and the top vent also has a new cover that makes it easy to touch while cooking versus finding some type of tool to adjust because it is too hot.

In closing this grill costs twice what the basic entry model of Weber Kettle grills cost. We are tickled pink we spent the extra money and the more we use it, the happier we become with our choice.
